Paper Stock Guide
Gloss text gives colours a bright, reflective finish — great for photos and bold graphics. Silk text has a smooth, low-sheen surface that's easier to read in bright light and feels more premium to the touch. Going from 80lb to 100lb adds noticeable weight and rigidity — worth it for a piece you want to feel substantial in hand.
Brochure Printing — Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a bi-fold and a tri-fold brochure?
A bi-fold (also called a half-fold) folds once down the middle, giving you four panels. A tri-fold folds twice, creating six panels — the most common format for rack cards, menus, and service overviews.
What size should I choose — 8.5″ × 11″ or 11″ × 17″?
The 8.5″ × 11″ flat size is the most popular — it's economical and fits easily in a display rack or bag. The 11″ × 17″ gives you more space for photos, maps, or detailed content — ideal for restaurant menus, event programs, or feature-heavy sales material.
How should I set up my artwork file?
Download the template from the Print Design Guidelines section on this page. Set your document to the full flat size with 0.125″ bleed on all edges and keep text and logos within the safe zone. Note that the inner panel of a tri-fold is slightly narrower than the outer panels — the template accounts for this.
Which paper stock is best for restaurant menus?
100lb Silk Text is a top choice for menus — the smooth, low-glare finish is easy to read under restaurant lighting and holds up well to repeated handling. For vivid food photography, 100lb Gloss Text is a strong alternative.
Will my brochure crack along the fold?
Machine folding on lighter paper stocks (80lb) can cause the ink to crack along the fold line — this is a normal characteristic of the printing process, not a defect. If a clean fold is important for your job, select 100lb stock and choose the Score & Hand Fold option. Scoring creases the paper before folding, which significantly reduces cracking and gives the brochure a cleaner, more professional finish.
Can I get a proof before printing?
Yes — select Digital Proof (PDF) at checkout and we'll send you a PDF to review before the job runs. Recommended for first-time orders or complex layouts.
